Metal solves this by integrated directly with dev team workflows and providing visualization and artifacts directly from the command line. Building this tool required deep technical knowledge of the developer workflow through shadowing and design research. Devs that were adopting this tool had to feel that it was lightweight and integrate seamlessly into their workflow to really stick. There are a few aspects that I believe are essential to consider when designing an onboarding experience: Building confidence. How can we provide the user with a quick win? Shortening the user's time-to-value. Building trust. How can we make the user feel safe? Easy to understand messaging and direction. Building context. How can we make the user feel that our product is a part of their overall user journey? Considering organic engagement vs. users that came from somewhere specific. Audit current experiences across different platforms Outline unified onboarding design vision Sketch low-fidelity wireframes Iterate based on feedback Create high-fidelity design wireframes Build prototypesI started by auditing existing decentralized exchange experiences. Together with the Uniswap design team, I developed a POV on a good trading and liquidity providing experience by determining patterns that were working well. Some of the issues I found with the current state of Uniswap were around: 1. Confusing, intimidating, or unfamiliar copy2. Lack of GuidanceI conducted interviews with users who had various levels of experience with crypto. Some of the main learnings from this research were around the complexity of new vocabulary and the introduction of new mental models in web3. Users already have trouble with traditional financial terminology. Decentralized finance has a whole new set of terms that are perceived as even more esoteric. Risk and security are huge barriers to entry, there is still generally a perception that crypto can't be trusted - with narratives ranging from the history of crypto's connection to the dark web to scams and schemes. Most crypto curious users prefer to learn with short form video content (ie. TikTok, Youtube) Those that identify as having moderate to high risk tolerance are more likely to own crypto. Uniswap users are more likely to self-identify in the upper half the risk tolerance scale. How might Uniswap appeal to those who identify as having moderate risk tolerance? How might we create a social NFT marketplace that makes buying, minting, and selling NFTs a social-first interaction? I worked with the founding team and a PM to define a set of must-haves for an MVP mobile app. Starting with low fidelity screens of the main features, I began mapping out the app architecture. The primary interaction feed shows one artwork at a time - this was a key user interaction that I spent time on perfecting. Creators and collectors can explore artwork and interact by commenting, liking, or purchasing the artwork for their personal collection. Error rates and lines lead to frustration and long wait times.How might we create a rapid cash withdrawal solution that focuses on low-amount cash withdrawals? I tested the usability of a number of ATMs and noticing any potential pain points. With their consent, I observed users as they transacted at Capital One Cafe locations and conducted in-depth interviews.&nbsp; Some of the behaviors I noticed included: Users were shielding transactions with their bodies to prevent anyone from seeing their transactionAcross the country, Capital One cafes were being flooded with Lines of people waiting for ATMs during peak times.I saw some frustration with users who had errors in their transactions.Visualized the sequence of events spatially on the interface - and you can see how complex a simple transaction can be.I also learned about the operational back end of ATMs - how machines are loaded with cash and some of the pain points in that process I held a stakeholder workshop to get all of our partners aligned on the project - ATM Ops, engineers, designers, and PMs. As the&nbsp; design lead on the project I coached the team around design thinking for a diverse set of customers, helping them think at scale about how to solve the usability problems rather than just thinking about aesthetics.The main issue I wanted to address was the issue of privacy - if users are uncomfortable at the ATM, how do I reduce that discomfort?To address this, I split the transaction into two parts - the transaction is first staged - the user can pick a withdrawal amount on their phone, away from the withdrawal machine. The second part of the transaction is public authentication into a physical withdrawal machine. We designed credit cards out of unique materials such as metal, wood, marble, and resin in a new, striking form factor with no bank branding in order to encourage ownership and bridge the gap between people and their money. I worked with a team of software engineers to create a system that allowed users to create unique generative patterns for their cards.
